Using 3D Design for Site Analysis

Sun/Shade Analysis

Maffei Landscape Design leverages the power of 3D CAD software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for all of its projects regardless of size for a wide variety of purposes throughout the design process. While the site inventory and analysis phase of the design process may be less glamorous than others, it is a vital step that identifies critical spatial and programmatic information. Firm founder and principal Danilo Maffei, FAPLD, PCH is an industry leader in the use of 3D CAD/BIM software and recently wrote an article for the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association (NJLCA)

The essence of BIM is the creation of models and digital objects with data associated that can be used to inform both designer, client and contractors during key decision-making points during the design and construction processes, with an infinite possibilities for data reporting and graphic display. The designer may use the information to validate and pre-visualize various possible solutions, while the client may use it to better understand how those solutions might fit their vision for the work and their budget. Contractors benefit from robust reporting in the form of product schedules and detailed drawings.
